Area Bereavement Support Groups & Other Resources

The following are community resources, not endorsed by BP/USA

Eagles’ Wings – Families who have lost a teen or young adult to drug abuse.  Meets Tuesdays twice monthly at Villa St. Benedict Assisted Living in Lisle.

Griefshare – Bible based grief video series -    Wednesdays 7 PM.

L.O.S.S. Support Group (Loving Outreach to Survivors of Suicide) - A collaborative effort between Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Joliet and the Archdiocese of Chicago.  The program offers support to those who have lost a loved one – relative or friend – to suicide.  L.O.S.S. groups meet monthly at the following locations:

National Organization of Parents of Murdered Children, Inc (www.pomc.org) - self-help organization designed solely to offer emotional support and information about surviving a loss due to murder. 

Our New Dawn – All bereaved parents, meets every other Thursday 6:30 – 8 PM at CNS Hospice, 690 E North Ave, Carol Stream.  Contact: Peter Starr (630) 933-7888

Pregnancy Loss and Infant Death Alliance - All families experiencing the death of a baby during pregnancy, birth, or infancy.  Go to www.plida.org for more information.

Sudden Infant Death Services of Illinois – SIDS is a statewide not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to supporting family members who have been touched by the tragedy of SIDS or post neonatal infant death, educating the public, and eliminating SIDS.  In Illinois, call 800-432-SIDS(7437) or 24-Hours 7-Days a Week

Suicide Prevention Services – Dedicated to the mission of reducing and eliminating suicide and suicide attempts through education, advocacy, and collaboration.  Website:www.spsfv.org

Tommy’s Kids– For children ages 5-12 who have experienced a significant loss due to death. 

Teens for Teens – "Teens for Teens" is an ongoing group for anyone 13-17 years of age who has experienced a loss through death. The group meets one Sunday a month. Call for more information.

Coping with grief – On-going grief support groups held every Monday at 9:30 AM or 7:00 PM located at the hospice office.
